Moving day is chaos — boxes everywhere, the truck double-parked, and somewhere in the middle of it all, your landlord or the new owners are about to walk through with a checklist of their own. A solid move-out clean is what gets your deposit back and keeps things friendly on the way out. Here’s how to do it room by room.

Kitchen

This is where most deposits get docked. Empty and wipe every cabinet and drawer, inside and out. Pull the stove away from the wall and clean behind it (yes, behind it). Scrub the oven interior and wipe the fridge shelves until they shine. Mop the floor and don’t forget the baseboards — landlords always check them.

Bathrooms

Scrub the tub, toilet, and sink until there’s no trace of soap scum. Wipe the mirror, clean the medicine cabinet, and mop behind the toilet. Ten focused minutes in here make the whole place feel clean.

Every room

Dust the ceiling fans and light fixtures. Wipe the door frames and light switches — they collect more grime than you’d think. Vacuum or mop every floor edge to edge, and open every closet and cabinet to make sure nothing’s left behind.

The final walk-through

Go room to room one last time with a critical eye. Trash out, windows closed, lights off, nothing left in the closets. If it looks spotless to you, it’ll look spotless to them.
